Los Angeles Regional Export Council (LARExC)

Creating Jobs Through Exports

"We in Los Angeles are not waiting for Washington to create jobs. We launched the Los Angeles Regional Export Council to help make it easier for local businesses to find the export assistance they need to grow their businesses and create new jobs."                           -Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

About LARExC

Mayor Villaraigosa has launched LARExC - the Los Angeles Regional Export Council, a public-private partnership between government, business, and educational institutions that is working to coordinate and streamline export services in the Los Angeles region. LARExC is a model for regional export plans around the country, and is leading the way to economic recovery through exports of goods and services.

LARExC is in the process of working with regional leaders in international trade to streamline the region's export support services and help LA businesses reach international markets. Studies show that 95 percent of the world's consumers live outside the US, and that 85 percent of economic growth willl happen outside of the US in the next five years. Helping LA businesses reach these growing markets is critical, as every $1 billion in exports creates 5,500 new jobs.

LARExC is a collaboration of regional export service organizations, including seven key partners:

LARExC is funded by contributions from City, State, and Federal sources, as well as from the private sector. JP Morgan Chase recently became the first private sector investor to commit funding to LARExC.

The Los Angeles Regional Export Plan

In partnership with the Brookings Institution, Mayor Villaraigosa initiated the creation of the Los Angeles Regional Export Plan. This plan identifies Los Angeles's key export strengths and opportunities, and sets the foundation for LARExC's initiatives and programs.
