Villaraigosa joined Alaska Airlines Chairman and CEO Bill Ayer, City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, airport commissioners and other officials in a ceremony today to unveil Alaska Airlines' "Airport of the Future" at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in a newly remodeled Terminal 6. Features of the renovated Terminal 6 include a new Board Room airline lounge, electrical outlets at half the seats in spacious boarding gate areas, a central service counter, and new state-of-the-art gate information displays.

    Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, joined by Councilmember Paul Koretz, and business, labor, and community groups, announced $3.3 million in federal Workforce Investment Act grants for job training programs in high growth, high wage industries. The grants will fund training for 1,000 workers in high growth, high wage industry sectors such as entertainment, construction, transportation, security, financial services, green technology, hospitality, and healthcare.

    Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced that six newly improved BusinessSource Centers are reopening across Los Angeles. The BusinessSource Centers are part of the Mayor's strategy to create a healthy environment for job creation in Los Angeles. The program is part of the Mayor's Office of Small Business' effort to expand support for key job creators in LA. Los Angeles is home to 325,000 small businesses making LA the largest small business community in the country.

    To attract and retain more businesses that generate jobs and large amounts of sales tax, Mayor Villaraigosa stood with Councilmember Mitch Englander and Council President Eric Garcetti and called for exempting auto dealers from the City's business tax. Equipois Inc. creates and manufactures exoskeletal arm technology to reduce injuries, increase productivity, and decrease costs in the workplace.
